Meet the Lubbock Sports Team

Hospitality is what West Texas is known for, and it’s what the Lubbock Sports Team echos in their work each and every day to help sports planners have a successful event in Lubbock. Get to know the team and learn what makes them excited about bringing events and tournaments to Lubbock.

Scott HarrisonScott Harrison, Sports Director

Describe your role at Lubbock Sports.
As the Director of Sports, I oversee sporting events, act as the welcoming committee for those involved in the events and provide hospitality for each group. With Lubbock being a top destination for sporting events, it is important for everything to run smoothly and make our visitors feel at home in this great city.

What makes Lubbock a great destination for sporting events?
Lubbock is known to have some of the nicest people around. When visitors come here from near or far, Lubbock residents are always hospitable and accommodating.  It also doesn’t hurt that it takes only 15 minutes at the most to get to each side of the city. With the multitude of venues and ease of access, Lubbock is a premier destination for sporting events.

What do you love about Lubbock?
The people of Lubbock are unlike anywhere else. Everyone is always so friendly, welcoming and supportive of local events. Lubbock is a pretty big city, but with a small town atmosphere. It is the perfect place to live because it has all the restaurants and shopping you need minus the big-city traffic. Lubbock continues to grow and has more options that ever before for sports planners.

What should visitors see or do before they leave?
Lubbock has numerous wineries, but one of my favorites is Llano Estacado Winery. You can tour the beautiful vineyard, enjoy wine tastings and catch some live music at one of their events. The National Ranching and Heritage Center is also a wonderful attraction that is unique to Lubbock. Visitors are able to check out their 48 authentic ranching structures dating back to the 1700s and really get a feel for the Old West.

Mike Rojas, Sports Sales Manager

Describe your role at Lubbock Sports.
As the Sports Sales Manager, I sell the numerous venues Lubbock offers that cater to almost every sport. More importantly, I educate travelers of the whole Lubbock experience and everything our city has to offer when they travel to West Texas.

What makes Lubbock a great destination for sporting events?
The history of Lubbock definitely makes it stand out from the rest, you just have to look for the hidden gems around town. There is so many food choices throughout Lubbock, I’m certain that there is a flavor for the whole family. Not to mention that the city was sensibly designed with easy navigation in mind to make travelers feel welcome in the “Hub City.”

What do you love about Lubbock?
Lubbock is my home. People around here greet people with a friendly face and the town gives off the small town feel in the midst of a city without feeling lost. Lubbock has so much more to offer than people give it credit for and I always enjoy showing people the local favorites.

What should visitors see or do before they leave?
Lubbock definitely has something to offer for everyone, during all seasons. Visitors should try the various wineries, along with arts and live music scenes featured downtown. If you’re up for it, Lubbock has several supposed haunted locations throughout the city. Upon completion in the near future, I hope visitors check out Adventure Park and The Lubbock Aquarium for all the attractions they’ll have to offer.
