How to Plan a Date Night in Lubbock
We all know how rare it is to get quality time with your sweetheart. In the spirit of love, we’ve put together a few suggestions for how you can savor those precious moments during a romantic night out. Whether it’s unleashing your creative side or splitting a sweet treat, the “Hub City” sets the stage for all you lovebirds.
From a cappuccino to a three-cheese grilled sandwich to Ruby Red Velvet cupcakes, sharing a delicious meal is one of the best ways to spend time with your beau. Lucky for us, Lubbock has no shortage of tasty cuisine.
Start your date in the morning at Yellow House Coffee with a hot apple cider, Americano or an Italian cream soda. Pair your chosen beverages with a warm breakfast of eggs, avocado toast or a scone.
If you’re meeting each other for lunch, Crafthouse Gastropub serves delicious dishes ranging from three-cheese grilled sandwiches to roasted salmon, a ribeye, burgers and pizzas. A trip to this local favorite isn’t complete without a sip from the extensive beverage menu. Try the Citrus Medley Chilton or a brew from their list of craft beers!
For an eclectic dining experience, stop by La Sirena. This Latin-American restaurant serves a variety of dishes like poblano “fries,” a stacked enchilada, a Goddess Bowl and a tenderloin filet served with a green chile relleno. Don’t miss their extensive wine menu or carefully crafted cocktails featuring their signature Mermaid Water and Blood Orange Margaritas!
I’m convinced every pasta dish sounds better when said with an Italian accent. Chicken Alla Casa, lobster ravioli and chicken parmigiana can all be found in downtown Lubbock at Italian Garden. With addictive bread and fresh salads, it’s no wonder this family-run business is a local favorite. This spot is also BYOB so bring along your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with dinner.
Don’t let date night end without treating your sweet tooth! One of Lubbock’s favorite dessert destinations is the one and only Pie Bar. Fill your cup with pretzel, Oreo or honey graham cracker crust and top it with your choice of pie fillings. The menu rotates every day and features fillings such as German Chocolate, Snickers, Red Velvet and Birthday Cake. If you’re not a fan of pie, try a serving of hot apple cobbler or a slice of cheesecake.
Couples that create together, stay together. Whether you’re a novice, artist or art aficionado, there are plenty of art-themed ideas for date night. Show off your inner Van Gogh at Painting with a Twist. Here, couples spend quality time together making lasting memories while painting. Bring a bottle of your favorite wine to add that something extra special to your evening.
Painting on a canvas isn’t the only creative endeavor you can share together. Head over to paint your own piece of pottery at The Mud Room. This destination offers a range of ceramic items to paint such as mugs, plates, bowls and a plethora of other shapes.
Another favorite place for an art-themed date night is Board & Brush Creative Studio. Make your own custom wooden sign and learn how to distress wood and sand, assemble your boards and choose stain and paint options. Check their calendar for class schedules and how to sign up for a class.
If you would rather admire someone else’s artwork with your beau, walk the campus of Texas Tech University for an up-close look at the Public Art Collection featuring more than 100 pieces. Head over to the Cultural District and browse artwork at various galleries such as LHUCA, Charles Adams Gallery and Charles Adams Studio Project as well as local murals scattered through the city. Mark your calendars for First Friday Art Trail each month, and walk through galleries, enjoy dishes served from local food trucks and hear local, live music.
Dance in the Depot
Another go-to destination for date night is the Depot Entertainment District. The historic Cactus Theater was built in 1937 as a movie house, and today the theater serves as a concert venue for performances of all kinds. Get your tickets for an upcoming tribute show featuring the music of The Eagles, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Journey or Haggard, Strait and Jones. Performers like Eric Johnson, The Songfellows Quartet and The Bellamy Brothers can also be found playing at the Cactus Theater.
For even more live music, head down the street to The Blue Light Live, one of Lubbock’s most iconic live music venues. Attracting established and up-and-coming acts from across the country, it’s a great place to kick back and listen to up-and-coming bands.
Visit one of the region’s seven wineries for a glass of award-winning wine, and chat with a local winemaker about the grapes of the High Plains. Whether you want to walk through a vineyard or split a bottle at an urban tasting room, Lubbock pours a variety of wines from Sangiovese and Montepulciano to Albarino and Roussanne.
Cheers to many memorable date nights in Lubbock! Share with us how you #LiveLoveLubbock with your main squeeze!
