Yayoi Kusama and Jeff Koons with Christian Conrad

The two artists we will investigate both create contemporary Pop art, with Koons focusing on sculpture and Kusama primarily producing installation art. Koons’ art is considered some of the most controversial based on his use of images and objects that are commercial properties whereby the artist has little to do with the creation or alteration of the work. Kusama’s work often incorporates polka dots into room-size spaces, resulting in a surrealistic effect on the viewer. Popular in the United States in the 1960s, Kusama’s work is experiencing a revival in the contemporary art world.

Saturday Lectures at LHUCA is an informal conversation over the life and work of contemporary artists. It’s a stress-free opportunity to examine the art and ideas that underlie much of the modern art world. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and join the conversation.
