The Life and Art of Susan Rothenberg and Joan Mitchell with Christian Conrad
511 Avenue K
Lubbock, TX 79401
Susan Rothenberg and Joan Mitchell are two Abstract Expressionist artists whose work extends the vocabulary of painting. Joan Mitchell created paintings using raw marks to produce canvases that were highly energetic and colorful. Considered one of the key figures of modern American painting, Mitchell’s work has been widely collected by major museums. Susan Rothenberg works with the legacy of Abstract Expressionism, but she moved the subject matter toward recognizable forms within her paintings. Famous for representations of horses within her art, Rothenberg continues to create work with identifiable forms blending with more abstract painting.
