Raiderland Game Plan

Picture this: a cloud of smoke appears, a black horse races across the field with the Masked Rider gripping the reins with one hand and holding her “Guns Up” with the other. The Red Raiders charge the field, greeted by 60,000 screaming fans. You don’t have to convince us that football season is the best time of the year – especially in Lubbock, Texas. With so much to do and choose from, we have compiled a complete guide to our tried and true Raiderland Game Plan. 

Parking

We all know that parking is crazy on game day. Beat the traffic, and the frustrations of not finding a spot, by using Uber or Lyft, carpooling or parking farther away and walking (or scootering) to campus. 

Pregame

This is where it all begins. What you choose to do before the game can impact your experience at the Jones, so choose wisely! We asked a few of our Instagram followers what their favorite pre-gaming traditions are. Here’s what they said:

Tailgate

Tailgating before the big game is always a great option. Lucky for you, the Red Raider tailgate provides exactly what you need to get pumped up for the game. All over campus you will find a sea of red and black along with hands in the air showing off their pride with a “Guns Up!”  

Raider Alley

If you’re interested in family-friendly tailgating, then Raider Alley is where you’ll want to be! Located on the southwest side of the Frazier Alumni Pavilion, Raider Alley tailgating offers food and live music for three hours before kickoff. Stop by to grab a drink or bite to eat and make friends with other Tech fans.

BBQ at the House

Heat up the grill and stock the cooler – it’s time to get ready for football! Whether you are heading to the Jones after you enjoy a cold one with your friends or watching the game in the comfort of your own home, barbequing in the backyard is a great option. 

Raider Walk

Before the game begins, fans can follow the “Goin’ Band from Raiderland” and the team into the stadium. 

Grab a bite to eat on Broadway

Before you head over to the Raider Walk, stop by Chimy’s and enjoy the nachos and cheese fries. Just down the street from Jones AT&T Stadium, you’ll find this Lubbock staple with some of the best margaritas in town. Chimy’s offers an indoor and outdoor space complete with flat screens and is the perfect place to get your pre-gaming on.

Will Rogers and Soapsuds

Once you’ve arrived, make sure you don’t forget to take a picture in your Raider gear with Will Rogers and Soapsuds. Before every football game, the statue is wrapped in red crepe paper to celebrate and honor the legacy of Texas Tech. Legend says Will’s horse, Soapsuds, has his rear facing Texas A&M, one of the Tech’s biggest rivals.  

*Pro tip: Don’t forget your tickets, student ID, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, Tech gear and a clear bag! 

It’s Game Time

As the Jones begins to fill and the coin is being tossed, don’t forget to grab any last-minute concessions and get amped up. Texas football is back! Whether you prefer sitting in the stands or standing front row with your chest painted, the experience is one you will never forget. Take in the energy of the crowd, the cheerleaders, the band and the players. There is nothing quite like being a Red Raider fan. 

Post-Game Celebrations

It’s no wonder that after the game clock strikes 0:00, fans flock to nearby spots to continue the celebration. Here are a few local favorites to try:

Bier Haus

With a fully stocked bar and over 60 beers available, Bier Haus is your good-time go-to for original cocktails and chilling draft beers that are dispensed at 29 degrees. Complete with custom tables, reclined chairs, a device-charging tree and bar swings, this dog-friendly bar serves up an experience like no other.                                                                                                                                     

The Roof

See one of the best views of the “Hub City” at The Roof! This energetic bar and nightclub overlooks Jones AT&T Stadium from the 11th story of a parking garage. Sip your drinks, appreciate the view and dance the night away.

Cafe J

There’s no doubt that the lounge at Cafe J is one of the hottest spots to hit up after a Tech game. With live music every Saturday night and a lively crowd, you’re sure to find good company and even better hand-crafted cocktails at this local spot!

Two Docs Brewing Co.

One of Lubbock’s newest breweries, Two Docs offers a variety of unique craft beers, a rotation of local food trucks and live music. Also, the patio is dog-friendly, so bring your furry friend to cheer on the Red Raiders!
