“Hub City Happy Hour”

After a long day of working from home, practicing social distancing and watching quarantine Tik Toks, my husband and I will pop a cork of our favorite Texas High Plains wine, crack a can of locally brewed beer or pour up a famous homemade Lubbock Chilton to kick off our new nightly plans. Luckily for us, local breweries, wineries and restaurants are making this evening ritual quite convenient for the Lubbock community. I have compiled a list of my personal favorites below to get your bar cart looking especially full for the time being.

Vino
Local wineries like McPherson Cellars and the new Burklee Hill Bistro and Tasting Room offer bottle delivery service right to your doorstep. I never knew wine delivery was something I needed, but what could be better? This is a juicy option for girls night over Zoom or a social distancing date night with someone you miss. Even if you’re home alone, there is no shame in ordering a bottle (or two, who am I kidding?) for yourself. When in quarantine…right?

Brew
Downtown breweries like Two Docs Brewing Co. and The Brewery LBK are canning and bottling their own craft beverages. You can now pick up a six-pack or growler of your favorite local beer to enjoy at home. It’s time to kick back and crack a cold one open with your dog, because social distancing is for the… everyone! You can’t go wrong with the classic Buddy Hoppy IPA from Two Docs. This is a local favorite for a reason.

Pro tip: Don’t be afraid to stock up! Some breweries are even offering a discount on orders for supporting local. Canned and bottled beer stays good in the fridge for a long time!

Mix it up
I don’t know about you but I have always wanted to try my hand at bartending. I think this is an idea many of us think we would be good at, but only a few excel. Now is the time to find out which you are! Many Lubbock restaurants like The Funky Door, Harrigan’s and Cafe J are offering take-home cocktail kits. With names like “Netflix and Chilton” and “Emergency Mimosa Kit,” these packages will not disappoint a makeshift mixologist during the quarantine.

As we begin experimenting behind the counter, don’t forget about the local liquors produced right here in the “Hub City.” Pick up a bottle of Pinkerton’s today! I even like to go onto local bars and restaurants’ websites to view the menu and try to recreate my favorite cocktails or shots. Whether you prefer an Apple Burn shot from Blue Light or the Mermaid Water from La Sirena, the 806 has you covered.

Let’s all raise a glass to supporting local businesses and staying healthy during this challenging time. Share your favorite concoctions with us using #LiveLoveLubbock and cheers to Lubbock libations!
