Visit Lubbock’s Top 10 Moments of 2013 – # 1

A drum roll only seems fitting for our No. 1 event of 2013. This time, imagine J.I. Allison rolling the drums while Buddy Holly waits to hit the opening chord of The Cricket’s hit song, “That’ll be the Day.” If you want to, we can make it happen.

Screen shot 2013-08-16 at 3.32.58 PMIn celebration of what would have been the late Buddy Holly’s 77th birthday, the Buddy Holly Center opened the doors to the childhood home of J.I. Allison. The house is literally just a flick of a guitar pick away from the museum. We were there to meet J.I. Allison, Sunny Curtis and Joe Mauldin for the grand opening of the Allison home.

drums_in_roomComplete with original items and furnishings from the Allison family, it is the same home where J.I. and Buddy wrote some of The Crickets most famous songs. Visit once and you’ll see why people believe this is where rock ‘n’ roll was born.
