From 1942 to 1944, Lubbock was home to the majority of American Glider Pilots and their flight training for World War II. To preserve their history and bravery, the Silent Wings Museum tells the story of the U.S. Glider Program and is home to three exhibit galleries, a C-47 airplane, research library, multimedia theater and one of the few fully restored World War II gliders in existence. The museum’s atmosphere embodies an era of swing music and patriotism. The Hangar Gallery has the capacity to host 378 attendees or 120 seated guests, providing an ideal setting for receptions, business meetings and other special events. Skyviews of Texas Tech University is a restaurant operated by the Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management (RHIM) program in the College of Human Sciences. The South Plains Fair Grounds is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)5 organization which operates as a regional fair for the same purpose that all fairs and stock shows exist. The Fair Grounds’ goal is to promote agriculture and livestock production, support youth and education and provide an entertainment medium for people in the Lubbock trade area.

The Texas Tech University International Cultural Center is a multiuse facility featuring two conference rooms, a 189-seat auditorium and a Hall of Nations room that can accommodate up to 200 people. This beautifully refurbished, historic facility offers an ideal location for a great variety of events such as ceremonies, musical and theatrical productions, galas, quinceañeras, receptions, business events and private parties. The state-of-the-art boardroom seats up to 100 guests, while Talkington Hall can be transformed from a sanctuary or performance-type setting to an elegant banquet space for 250 guests.
