Grape Day Uncorked
The weather was gorgeous, the wine flowed with each generous pour and the Red Raiders came out victorious as hundreds of people gathered for the 20th Annual Grape Day event on October 19 at the Llano Estacado Winery.
As one of five award-winning wineries in our area, it didn’t come as a surprise when I showed up at about 11:15 that morning (the event started at ten) to find that I still had to park a little further than I had expected. Something tells me the Red Raider football game against West Virginia had people extra excited that day, and it showed. People were coming in by the dozens!
Visitors were sampling just about every varietal you can imagine, and many folks, including myself, got to see Lubbock’s new food truck, The Twisted Texan. I kicked myself for eating a late breakfast, otherwise I would have hopped in the Twisted Texan line multiple times.
The inside of the winery was full of vendors who displayed a variety of specialty products. There were fine cigars, hand-crafted jewelry, home décor items and more. Everywhere you turned there was something new and shiny. Keyword: shiny. After overhearing some conversations, it’s no wonder women LOVE to bring their husbands to these types of events. With a little vino encouragement and the euphoric feeling after a Red Raider touchdown, it was difficult for men to say no. Poor guys…
Luckily for me, the only lucky lady that I brought on my arm was my camera. Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.
Now, if you couldn’t make it to this year’s event, no worries. The Llano Estacado Winery always hosts various events throughout the year and is open to the public for wine tastings on a regular basis. You can learn more by visiting their website at www.llanowine.com.
Until we meet again, happy tasting friends!
