Foodie Favorites from A-Z: A Look Back
If you’ve been following along with us the last couple of years (and I sincerely hope you have been), then you know we’ve been eating our way through the alphabet and sampling some of the best local cuisine that Lubbock has to offer. Following last month’s trip to Yellow House Coffee, we’ve made it all the way to the end. To celebrate, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite foodie reviews.
“I” is for Italian Garden
When Italian Garden first hit the “Hub City” we labeled it a must-try (in all caps, no less), and it’s just as good today as it was the day we ordered up our first plate of Tortellini Ala Pana with a calamari appetizer. The best part? Everything from the bread to the pasta is made from scratch.
Notable Quote: “I can literally drink this sauce. Yes, I said it.”
“F” is for The Funky Door Bistro & Wine Room
It’s been described by one of our recent Live Love Lubbock interviewees as a place where wine “literally comes out of the walls.” Thanks to Funky Door’s enomatic wine dispensers, it’s completely true. Pair your favorite vino with a Kobe burger, an Ahi Tuna Salad or an order of Funky Door Fondue and you’re in for a real treat!
Notable Quote: “Speaking of fondue, that’s the first item we tried. It’s the perfect appetizer or happy hour treat to pair with some wine. The restaurant offers a variety of fondues, but we chose the Funky Door Fondue, which is a blend of smoked gouda and caraway cheese. Paired with French bread croutons, it was a great choice!”
“L” is for Lee’s Café
You’d be hard-pressed to find chicken and waffles in town that beat what you can order up at Lee’s Café. Also on the menu, is home-cooked food that’s just like mama made it. Maybe even better, but we’ll never tell.
Notable Quote: “From the moment you walk into Lee’s Café, you feel as though you have walked back in time to the era of the 60’s diner. Before you know it, you’re humming along to the tunes of the greats like Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis, Jr. and, of course, our very own Buddy Holly.”
“S” is for Sazon at Arrogant Texan
We could have written this Foodie Favorites blog with just two words: brisket nachos. But thankfully, we didn’t stop there. We raved about their salsa bar, sampled the macaroni with pulled pork and barbecue sauce and gave the spicy coleslaw a try. We’re getting hungry just thinking about it.
Notable Quote: “No one should be allowed to be this good at this many things.”
“W” is for West Crust Artisan Pizza Pies
The true West Crust specialty is perfecting artisan pizzas. We ordered up everything from “The Beast” topped with pepperoni, philly steak, grilled chicken, Italian sausage and the seemingly opposite “Veggiepottomus,” which holds its own in the toppings department. Hungry yet?
Notable Quote: “We’ve already added the “Mac-Lovin’” to our must-try list. Bacon, mac-n-cheese ON a pizza?! Sold.”
