The Life and Art of Richard Hamilton and Peter Blake with Christian Conrad
511 Avenue K
Lubbock, TX 79401
This lecture will feature an examination of British Pop art through the lives of Peter Blake and Richard Hamilton. From the same time period as American Pop art, the British movement had a similar connection to popular music and contemporary culture. Peter Blake’s most famous work, the cover of the Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, is but one of his famous album covers. Blake’s work beyond the Pop movement expands to include a variety of subjects, including British folk tales. Additionally, Richard Hamilton is considered by many historians to be the first Pop artist, with his imaginative collage work incorporating elements from consumer culture. Join us as we investigate these seminal artists of the British Pop movement.
