James Whistler 1834-1903
One of the more renowned early American artists, James Whistler’s iconic “Mother” is one of the most recognized paintings in contemporary history. An international traveler, Whistler spent part of his youth in Russia and would create some of his best-known paintings while living in Europe. Known as much for his flamboyant personality as his paintings, Whistler cultivated a persona as an artist that helped him separate himself from his fellow artists. He also experimented with connections between music and painting with many of his works being symbolic of the harmonies one finds in music.

Saturday Lectures at LHUCA is an informal conversation over the life and work of contemporary artists. It’s a stress-free opportunity to examine the art and ideas that underlie much of the modern art world. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and join the conversation.

This event is free to the public. Join LHUCA for coffee and donuts!
