Shaken, Stirred and Everything in Between
They say you can’t reinvent the wheel, but no one said anything about the martini. Gin, vermouth and bitters are the typical building blocks of this classic cocktail, but today’s martinis are mixed with a host of liquors, spirits and liqueurs, and choices stretch well beyond the James Bond-esque “shaken, not stirred.” While I’m typically no-frills when it comes to my martini preference (dirty, vodka and an olive garnish), Lubbock is home to so many restaurants that have perfected this particular cocktail, I may be trading the martinis of happy hours past in favor of a much more unconventional choice. Below are a few of Lubbock’s happy hour hot spots to help you get started!
- Café J – Here you can find several twists on this happy hour favorite including a Mexican Martini, made with Cuervo and fresh squeeze of lime, or the unconventional but equally delicious Mermaid, made with gin, St. Germain, fresh grapes and champagne.
- The Funky Door Bistro & Wine Room – Even though Funky Door is one of Lubbock’s go-to spots for wine, try swapping out that glass of red or white for one of their signature martinis. Did we mention they’re only $5 on Thursdays?
- Rain Uptown Ristorante – If you’re looking for an upscale martini experience, look no further than Rain Uptown. With a staggering 65 martinis to choose from, you will have no difficulties finding a new favorite. One of ours is the Chocolate-Covered Pretzel!
- Stella’s – From classic twists like a cosmopolitan or an appletini to the sinfully delicious chocolate martini, made with crème de cacao, Stella’s serves it all up with complimentary hors d’oeuvres.
