Walk of Fame II - The Crickets

The Buddy Holly Center announces its new exhibition displayed in the Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Gallery, Walk of Fame II - The Crickets, this rotating exhibition hightlights individuals inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame, now located across the street from the Buddy Holly Center. The second installment features photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia of The Crickets: Jerry Allison, Joe B. Maulding, Niki Sullivan, and Sonny Curtis. The exhibition will be on display August, 24- February 3, 2013.

Carol of Lights
December 1st 2012

With the flip of a switch, more than 25,000 colored lights will illuminate 13 buildings around Memorial Circle, The Engineering Key and the Broadway Entrance to the campus during Texas Tech University’s Carol of Lights.


The 54th Annual Carol of Lights will be held on Saturday, December 1st, 2012. The Ceremony will begin at 6:30pm with a Carillon Concert. At 7pm the Masked Rider and Horse, Saddle Tramps Torch Light Processional and High Riders will begin at the University Seal at the Broadway Entrance and follw the Luminaria Lighted Route around Memorial Circle to the Science Quadrangle.


The lights will be turned on every night from dusk until midnight from December 2nd through Januray 1st, 2013.

Miracles Christmas Parade
December 8th 2012


The primary reason for the parade is to give back to the community and to promote an atmosphere of family fun, family entertainment, and togetherness. Each year, the parade will benefit the United States Marines "Toys for Tots." They work to make Christmas a magical season for families on the South Plains, and a time of sharing with those in need.
Hot chocolate, coffee, and hot apple cider will be sold at various locations along the parade route to benefit Lubbock charitable organizations. Including Lubbock Independent School Bands.


Come out to 34th Street for a family Christmas! The parade starts promptly at 6pm and includes lighted units for that extra special effect.

Doggie Dash

Bring your dogs on a fun run through the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum and Clapp Park on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 10am.
There will be a Jingle Bell Course for smaller dogs and a Rugged Terrain Challenge Course (approx 1.2 miles) for the more adventurous dogs and owners. Santa Land

For the 56th consecutive year, Santa Land will light up the Lubbock night with Christmas trees, children singing, twinkling lights and Santa and Mrs. Claus ready to hear the Christmas dreams of area children. In an opening ceremony, Lubbock City Council members and special guests will welcome the Clauses, light the 60-foot Christmas tree, and officially open Santa Land on Monday, December 10 at 6pm.


Children from Lubbock and surrounding communities are invited to be a part of this special evening. Santa Land is open December 10-23, 2012 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. nightly, and as always, Santa Land is free to the public. More than 32,000 people visit Santa Land each year to see the festive holiday village with its huge lighted Christmas tree, animated displays, bonfires, traditional holiday scenes, and Santa and Mrs. Claus. For visits with Santa, parents are encouraged to bring their children early in the evening as the line is stopped on busy nights at approximately 9pm or earlier depending on the crowd.


Enjoy live entertainment most evenings from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Hot chocolate and other refreshments are available for sale at the concession stand. Parents are welcome to bring cameras and video cameras to take photos of their children with Santa at no charge. For those who forget their cameras, keepsake digital photos may be purchased for $5 each. The entrance to Santa Land is from the East Broadway entrance into Mackenize Park just east of Avenue A and the South Plains Fairgrounds.

Lubbock’s Largest Gingerbread House

This 8 foot tall 6 foot long candy covered house is available for viewing throughout December. So what does it take to build Lubbock’s Largest Gingerbread House? 60 pounds of icing, 72 pounds of brown sugar, 90 pounds of butter, 369 eggs, 5.75 gallons of molasses, 3 cups of cinnamon, 2 cups of cloves, 200 pounds of candy.
Chef Patrick Tarantino and everyone at the Overton Hotel worked hard to put this masterpiece together and all in an effort to collect donations for the children at Texas Boys Ranch. Donations can also be made anytime at the Overton Hotel’s main desk or by purchasing one of the Pecan Grill’s specialty desserts or drinks.

FiberMax Caprock Classic

The 54th annual FiberMax Caprock Classic will be held on December 28th, 29th and 30th. There will be over 90 high school varsity teams that will provide great basketball. Ambucs anticipates this tournament to be the largest in the nation again this year.
