Located along I-27 on the west side of Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, the Silent Wings Museum tells the story of the U.S. Military Glider Program and its role in World War II. The majority of American glider pilots received their wings at South Plains Army Airfield (SPAAF) - now the site of the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport. The museum features one of the few fully restored World War II gliders in existence and includes three exhibit galleries, a multimedia theater, a C-47 airplane, research library and museum store.

5 stars - the Silent Wings museum is really nicely done, has great info and provides excellent information and context to an enduring part of the United States war effort. Learn about another great war effort and the reality of being a pilot going into harms way and not returning home in the air. Hats off to those men and to the supporting efforts to build, train, and support the glider program of WWII.
